Here’s a little something I wrote for us “lonely ones” on Valentine’s Day:

My dear friends,

You’ve found yourself alone on this day… But it’s not so bad.

Maybe you’re like me, scared of commitment, and waiting for the right time to settle down again (when your career will allow). Maybe you’re trying too hard to find love, or maybe not hard enough. Maybe you wanted kids, and they didn’t… (I myself want at least a couple, someday. I want a beautiful wife, who loves me for the embarrassing things I like, can make me laugh, will make blanket-forts with me when we’re 40, and will love me entirely, despite my shortcomings.) Maybe you scare them away, because you just want to be loved. Maybe you’re looking in the wrong places. Maybe. Maybe. Maybe.

Let’s rest easy on this day. Let the lovers of the present enjoy their time together. Be happy for them. May they have a perfect evening that leaves them intertwined in each other’s naked breath, while the stars paint their bodies with light. Love is as real as we want it to be, or, will let it be, rather. It’s everywhere we look. And the beautiful thing is, it’s not going anywhere. It’ll be here tomorrow, and the next day… Waiting for us to trip over it when we least expect it. And when we do, we’ll be ready for it. We’ll get that feeling in our guts, and we’ll just know.

So, until then… Enjoy your own company. Nothing can teach you the secrets of life quite like a quiet night with the familiar sound of famous singers glancing off your bedroom walls. We’re all young and beautiful (no matter your age, or what you think, it’s really quite true)… Naive and doomed… Lost and wondering… 

And we’ve found ourselves alone on this day,… But it’s not so bad.
